Victoria Grizzlies 2 - 5 Surrey Eagles @ Bear Mtn Arena, Dec 17, 2011

Not one of the games to remember as far as 2011 goes. A depleted Grizzlies line up, had trouble against a Surrey team that looked good for the moment the puck dropped. Garret Rockafellow would start this one, after Jamie Tucker's injury on Weds night.

First Period - Before the crowd had settled into their seats, the Eagles went on the attack and after only 20 secs, Brandon Tanev(younger brother of the Canucks Chris Tanev), had made it 1-0. The Grizzlies looked a little shell-shocked and would go further behind two minutes later, when one half of one the best brother combination we've seen in the BCHL in recent years, Tyler Morley, who was excellent on he night made it 2-0. Stefan Gonzales, had trouble clearing the puck and committed the turn over, allowing Hennoun to set up Tyler.
The Grizzlies who had 4 AP's in the line up, including new signing from the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds Mitch Guiel, seemed to be chasing the Eagles forwards around for much of the first.
Garrett Rockafellow, would start to settle down a bit and pulled off a couple of nice saves as the period went on. New Assistant Captain Jarryd Ten Vaanholt, would bring the Grizzlies back into it, as he would fire a shot through the legs of Eagles goalie Hunt to get the Grizzlies within one, with a little help for Muprhy and Gonzales. 2-1 Eagles at the end of the first.

Second Period - Was mainly all Surrey as the Grizzlies had problems getting anything going in the offensive dept. The Eagles top line of Morley, Brandon Morley and ex-clipper Brayden Jaw where impressive on the night and would make it 3-1 Eagles, as Brandon would score from Tyler and Jaw two minutes in. After peppering Rockafellow's net, ten minutes later the Eagles would add to there lead making it 4-1 as Alex Hagan would put the Eagles comfortably ahead.

Third Period - Would see a ray of hope as Alex Holland would score his 10th of the season to make it 4-2 Eagles as the Victoria started to get some pucks on net midway through the third, but, that's where the revival ended. Tyler Morley, would make sure the contest was dead and buried 3 minutes before the end as he would hammer a shot by Rockafellow to make it a 5-2 Eagles final.

Game Thoughts Grizzlies -  It's not often that the Grizzlies get outplayed at home or don't turn in a good effort even in defeat. However, tonight was a tough loss which wasn't helped by the injuries and a number of new faces still getting to know each other.  The issue from this game is, it's two points dropped against a playoff rival at home and they where well beaten tonight. The boys should come out with a little more fire v's Cowichan tonight.

Game Thoughts Surrey - Well coached and played a solid game of hockey tonight. They Morley brothers where superb on the night and also the ever reliable Andrew Hunt in goal for the Eagles, kept the Grizzlies at bay.
