The first game of this two game weekend series went the way of the Powell River Kings tonight, (both in Powell River) at Hap Parker Arena on Saturday evening.
Ironically, yeah lets go there, it was Powell Rivers teddy bear toss tonight. Powell River Kings fans would get to through their Teddy's in the first, when offensive D-man Craig Dalrymple would score on the PP on the 3 minute mark, to make it 1-0 Powell River. It would stay 1-0 going in at the end of the first.
The 2nd period would start off promising for the Grizzlies and they would go onto score two goals on special teams in the 2nd period, going ahead 2-1 via markers from Robertson and Ten Vaanholt. However, the Grizzlies couldn't hold on to that lead and in the last five minutes of the 2nd, the Kings would storm back with goals from Waugh and Adair to go into the third period leading 3-2.
The Grizzlies despite having some decent chances, would fall behind further when Schuler would make it 4-2. An empty netter from Scarth would seal the deal and a 5-2 Powell River win on the night!!
Another decent effort from the Grizzlies tonight. However, they didn't have enough in the tank tonight to hang tough with the Kings away from home. Powell River would cap a vital home win tonight, which leaves them 4 points behind Cowichan who are in first place.
Credit to Sean Robertson, who after receiving a stick to face from Evan Richardson, lost a few teeth, but, would return later in the third. The unsung hero tonight, was Rick Burke who is filling in as trainer on this road trip. Rick, was kept busy with a few knocks to the boys throughout the game.
The Grizzlies will be looking to get back to winning ways, when the two teams square off again in Powell River tomorrow afternoon. The puck drops at 1:30pm.
Victoria, have slipped to 6th place in the league and are now 11 points out of top spot in the Coastal Conference.
Grizz Bits - Add Chase Kaiser to the DL, as he missed the game along with Pernerowski (concussion) and David Walchuk who are still injured. Hopefully we'll see all 3 back in the line up soon.
