Like a lot of BCHL teams in the last couple of years, attendence has slipped and in some cases to a worrying tone. Arguments have been made recently, that Victoria's ticket prices at $15.00 (a little steep compared around the league), promotions, the Victoria Royals arrival on the scene and of course the economy. have all been factors to this!!!
However, home support aside when the Grizzlies travel on the road with it being against an Island opponent or a lower mainland roadtrip involving Langley, Surrey and Coquitlum, Grizzlies players and oppostion fans will more often than not, hear the singing and chanting of the Grizzlies travelling support. This singing and chanting has been louder than the home support in Surrey and Langley on more than one occasion. The soccer chant " theres more of us than you" has jumped to my mind when Grizzlies fans have been to these barns, as far as vocal support comes into to play.
These diehard fans come armed with signs, clackers and there voices to cheer on the boys. There numbers can range from 8, up to at times 20. Add in a few of the players parents and families from that part of the world who are always welcome, and it is perhaps the best travelling support in the league.
I have been fortunate enough, to have been a part of a number of these road trips and the fun, comradary and of course the IHop breakfasts turn into a can't miss Grizzlies road trip.
To these fans I say, "keep up the great support and work you do", you know who you are. And to the Grizzlies players, listen out for them when your playing on the Island or on the lower mainland, these are some of the best fans in the BCHL!!!!
