Grizzlies 4-3 Eagles (Out of town for a few days so limited report sorry)

The Grizzlies have got into the win column for the 2011/12 season, with an impressive display against the Surrey Eagles. The stability seemed to be in place with Jamie Tucker in goal and the forward corp peppered the net of one of the BCHL's better goalies Andrew Hunt, scoring 4 goals on 35 shots.
After a scoreless 1st period, Surrey would take the lead on a shorthanded goal via Brandon Tanev(brother of Canucks Chris Tanev). The powerplay group would redeem themselves 14 secs later with Mike Moran, who will be leaned on heavily for goals this seasons, scoring the Grizzlies first of the night to tie it up for the reminder of the 2nd.
The third period, would be ruled by special teams with the Grizzlies looking very dangerous on the powerplay adding two PPG from Murphy and Cam Lawson. Mike Moran would also add his 2nd of the night and the lone goal from Surrey in the 3rd coming from Devon Toews, rounding out a 4-2 Grizzlies victory.
Murphy and Myron continue to improve and with the added firepower of Ten Vaanholt, Lawson, Gehl and Moran, goals hopefully shouldn't be a problem. With the team going 3 for 7 on the powerplay tonight is pretty solid and shows the team is working hard in practice.
Having Jamie Tucker at the back, certainly adds confidence to the line up, his experiance can dictate how far this team will go. The defensive unit should keep improving in time, but, seeing another experinace D man back there would help matters.

Beating the Surrey Eagles should give this team more confidence than just a first win. The Eagles are a very good Junior A hockey club and are well coached by Matt Erhart(BCHL's coach of the year last season). The Grizzlies must build on this result to inject some life back into the season, which they are more than capable of doing.
This 2011/12 version of the Grizzles, reminds me a lot of the Jordie Benn led 2007/08 team. Nothing flashy, but, capable of beating anyone on any day and they made it a team a effort evey night. That team effort for the 2011/12 will come....it's already started.
