Minor Hockey League Night (please see the GrizzliesWebsite, Offical Facebook page or the article on this blog from Tuesday, Oct 2nd for more details)
The Grizzlies will welcome back Myles Fitzgerald after
missing the last Saturday’s game and with the Fitzgerald’s in fine form to
start the season, will lead the line again tonight. As mentioned in the last
game report, it’s not like the other three lines aren’t playing well, it’s just
that the scoring hasn’t been there. With Hahn and Powell finding some promising
form, you get the feeling that the likes of Hartskamp, Kaiser, Lawson, Walchuk,
Skrbich and others will start to put some scoring streaks together.
Chase Kaiser should hopefully be back against the
Silverbacks, and his energy and handwork, where certainly missed in the last
game.
DeJong, Thompson and Jones have looked impressive coming up
from the back and will certainly add more potency and points which has been a
blessing for the Grizzlies so far. With a more evenly matched BCHL this season
and the Grizzlies being on home ice, wins at home could be the key factor in
deciding the playoffs spots, especially among the Island teams this season
In the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, the Grizzlies welcome back an
old foe in the form of new ‘Backs’ Head Coach Scott Robinson. Scott, takes over
from Troy Mick who has have moved to take over the GM role only now.
In Robinson , Salmon Arm have one of the more proven/experienced
coaches in the league and a coach who has certainly chalked up his fair share
of victories when he managed the Cowichan Valley Capitals for four seasons a few years ago. Robinson, was
the architect of knocking out Rylan Ferster’s impressive Victoria Grizzlies team,
who included Bozak, Benn, Nunn and Nugent. That 06-07 Grizzlies team may have gone
all the way, however, after the Grizzlies went 2 games up the series, a well-coached gritty Caps team
came back to win four games in a row, thanks to some fine work by Scott Robinson’s
and his players to eliminate the Grizz.
This season the Silverbacks have gotten off to a rough start
with only 1 win in 5 games. But , with a roster that includes the likes of
Brayden Sherbinin, Brandon Mistal, Josh Bowes and a decent goaltending tandem
in Djizecky and Clark, results should come the ‘Backs’ way soon. One player you
won’t get to see in the line-up, is ex Grizzlie, Alex Holland who was traded to
Salmon Arm, but, failed to report.
With Salmon Arm on Friday night and a road game versus the
Powell River Kings on Saturday night, it should be a tough test for Bill, Craig
and the boys this weekend, but, one they will rise to the challenge against.
