David Morley - Part 2: On how our Grizzlies from last year are doing in their NCAA/CIS careers
Former Grizzlie forward from last season, ''the thrill from Richmond Hills" David Morley, has been furthering his hockey career and is majoring in Sports Management with the NCAA Div 1, St Cloud State University in Minnesota.
Morley, was picked up from the Aurora Tigers from the OJAHL where he had been their top scorer the season before and had picked up a reputation for being one of the best Junior A snipers in Ontario.
Morley, came as advertised and adapted to the BCHL in no time at all. Putting up 25 goals and 51 assists in the regular season as well as being a clutch performer in the playoffs, with 4 goals and 9 assists in 13 games. David, worked hard in his one season with the Grizzlies, becoming a fan favorite quickly. You always knew when Morley was on the ice, something was going to happen in the offensive dept. A treat to watch in his one year in Victoria.
In his freshman year at St.Cloud, Morley is in good company along with ex BCHL players like Garrett Milan, highly touted ex-Bulldog Mitch MacMillan and former Grizzlie Cam Reid.
Watch for David Morley to make his St.Cloud debut soon.

Cowichan 5-6 Victoria in Double OT, @ Island Savings Centre, Nov 19th
In a tenacious battle in Duncan tonight, the Grizzlies would win a see-saw battle against the Caps in double OT; after a Chase Kaiser penalty shot would seal the deal. Huge victory especially against a Caps team who are aggressive, have two solid goaltenders and three lines that can cause a lot of problem and have for the Grizzlies this season.
This was a great advertisement for BCHL tonight.
1st period: A minute into the game, the Caps would score with a controversial goal, as it looked like Jamie Tucker was pushed over in the ruckus around his net and Brandon Mistel would whack it in. The Grizzlies had there game faces on, but, the Caps would keep coming at Victoria and after some nice play in the Grizzlies zone and good puck movement by David Pope would make it 2-0 Caps. Two minutes later the Grizzlies tried to regroup, but, where caught off guard again as Travis Stephens after some nice work from young Steen Cooper would make it a commanding 3 goal lead for the Caps. Scott Didmon and colour analyst Dan Webb, would be forgiven on their comments that this could turn into a long night for the boys at that point.
The Grizzlies on the PP, would claw one back after a pinpoint pass from Bilious to Myron would see Wes, set up Murphy to put the Grizzlies on the board. Murphy would keep his 22 point consecutive game scoring streak alive with this goal.
Caps would go in 3-1 at the 1st intermission.
2nd Period: The Cap and Grizzlies would exchange shots at the start of the 2nd, but, it was the Grizzlies roared on by the rambunctious travelling support would see a nice tic-tack-toe play from Murphy and Myron, with Myron scoring the Grizzlies 2nd. The Caps would storm back with dangerman Brandon Mistal restoring the Caps two goal lead on the 7 minute work after nice work from Pope and Iacobellis. David Pope, is certainly making an impression on the league and this would be his 2nd point of the game. However, the Grizzlies heads wouldn't go down and the first line would start to target the Caps and Wade Murphy would beat Caps goalie Brady Rouleau with assists from Kasier and Ursic. Victoria, up against one of the better Caps team in recent years, would stun the home team as Sean Robertson scored short handed after a forced turn over on a Caps forward, by Mike Sandor, picked out Moran who enabled Robertson to score and tie the game at 4-4.
3rd Period:The Caps who are well worth there 12 wins on the season so far, would score six minutes in; as the hardworking Nanaimo native Mikael Jung(younger brother of goalie Torrie Jung)would square the puck to Keyler Bruce, who has had a great sophomore season with the Caps so far. This would send the Caps fans into ecstasy as Keyler, would give the Duncan side a 5-4 league. A heart pounding third period and a ton of Grizzlies pressure would be rewarded when Taylor Pernerwoski who has been stellar in the month of November, would strike the Caps post. After Murphy took a shot, it would rebound and land on Taylor's stick who would bury it by Rouleau to make it a 5-5 sending, the game into overtime.
Man, could you ever hear those travelling fans at that point!!!!!!!
OT(1st) - 4 on 4: With both sets of fans on the edge of their seats and watching what Junior A hockey is all about, the Caps would catch there 2nd wind causing the Grizzlies some issue. With the teams exchanging opportunities, Cowichan was awarded a penalty when one of their forwards(Mistal I think, I could be wrong) was tripped by Sean Robertson who may have done the right thing with the Caps forward, likely in on goal at that point. The Grizzlies down to 3 players would survive the powerplay and make it to the 2nd OT period.
OT(2nd) - 3 on 3: 3 on 3 is always adrenaline filled and nerve wracking. The winner is usually the team who wants it more and can keep hold of the puck. Another big factor to 3 on 3 OT hockey is "don't give away a penalty" in double OT as this leads to an automatic penalty shot. And that's exactly how it would be decided as Taylor Pernerowski would be tripped up by David London. With the penalty shot awarded by Ref Rasmussen, former Cowichan Valley favorite Chase Kaiser would take the bull by the horns, keep his cool and score the penalty shot to beat Rouleau; making it a stunning 6-5 Victoria Grizzlies victory.
Game Thoughts Victoria: Great performance, especially against an inform Cowichan side who have been a tough nut to crack for Victoria so far this season. Two wins in a row, great performances from the Grizzlies Ontario posse of Gehl and Pernerowski adding to that it was Myron's sixth point in two games and Murphys sixth point in two games including Wade's point streak increasing to 22 games. This weekend should be another shot across the bow to the Grizzlies, Coastal Conference rivals. This victory puts the Grizzlies a game over the .500 mark with 26 points and just two points off the pace(still a few extra games played then the rest of the division though at this time).
Great game, great broadcast and the usual loud Grizzlies travelling support.
Attendance at Island Savings Centre: 1062 Powerplays: Cowichan 0 for 5 and Victoria 2 for 5
Shots on Goal: Cowichan 21 and Victoria 27

Wes Myron: Post Game Interview with Mike Mellings
Great Post Game Interview from Mike Mellings, interviewing the Grizzlies, Team Canada West Gold Medalist and four points hero tonight Wes Myron; after the Alberni Valley game:
Grizz Roar’s Roving Reporter Mike Mellings, caught up with Wesley Myron after the Victoria Grizzlies defeated Alberni Valley 6-3 with Myron notching a third period natural hat-trick.
Grizzlies Roar: Wesley that was quite a way too make your return to the line-up tonight.
Wesley Myron: Yeah what a great comeback victory. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to come back to the team. It was a great third period and a great finish.
GR: Let’s talk about the last couple of weeks for you and your commitment to Boston University.
WM: It’s definitely been a whirlwind tour, it’s been great to see what the next level will look like. It’s a great program at Boston University, I know it’s on the other side of North America but it had a great feel to it.
GR: Former Grizzlies forward Justin Courtnall attends Boston University did you get a chance to talk to him at all?
WM: I did, actually I went to dinner with him. I train with Justin in the summer.
GR: Of course you were just getting started next came the World Junior “A” Challenge. What was that experience like?
WM: It was great, it was an honor to be invited to camp and I just tried to make the best of that opportunity. It was an honor to pull on the Canadian sweater and I couldn’t have asked for better teammates in the short-term. Winning the gold medal was just the cherry on top.
GR: Any worries after losing the first two games?
WM: No, we never doubted our team I think the fans were more worried than any of the players. Our coaches mantra was to get better every game and that’s what we did.
GR: You’ve been centering one of the most productive lines in the BCHL this year with Wade Murphy and Jarryd Ten Vaanholt, tell us about that?
WM: It’s been clicking well the whole year, it’s been a great fit to play with those two guys and we don’t even really have to talk much out there now, it just feels natural.
