Alberni Valley Bulldogs 10 - 3 Victoria Grizzlies @ Weyerhauser Arena, Feb 11, 2012
The Undermanned Grizzlies faced another barrage of up to 60 shots as they couldn't build on the recent success of the previous nights victory in Coquitlam.
Starting the game with only 13 skaters for the 2nd game in a row, fatigue would be a factor. Although the Grizzlies would come out of the gate in the first 7 minutes of the first period on fire. Two goals by Chase Kaiser, including one on the powerplay and a Mike Sandor goal would give the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead. Credit to the boys for battling in that first period, but, the Dogs would come back to score 10 unanswered goals over the next two and half periods.
Credit to the Bulldogs who where only playing with 16 skaters in their line up as they went for the Grizzlies jugular and didn't let up. The Belarusian brothers Artisom and Yan Kalashinokiv would combine for 9 points on the night; along with 3 point nights for Tironese, Tyrone, Stand and Hyland would ensure the Alberni would climb up the standings and match the Grizzlies on points for the season with 39.
Taylor Pears, would face 60 shots stopping 50 of them. This moves the total workload in the last two game for Pears, to 123 shots where Taylor has stopped an incredible 108 of them.
To add to the Grizzlies roster woes, along with Capt Kevin Smith who will hopefully be back soon, the Grizzlies lost Nolan DeJong (rookie of the season in my mind) and the Grizzlies own Bulldog on the ice, forward Mitchell Smith. The Grizzlies finished the game with just 11 skaters and only 3 defenceman.
The Bulldogs lead the season series with the Grizzlies 4 games to 2.
Credit to the boys for putting the effort in these last two games despite being undermanned.
Attendance - 1273 Shots on Goal - Bulldogs 60 and Grizzlies 32
Powerplay - Bulldogs - 0 for 3 and Grizzlies 1 for 1
