Dante Godinho and news on the Peninsula Panthers

Dante Godinho, who was released by the Grizzlies in November, proved a point last weekend as he suited up as an AP for the Coquitlam Express. Godinho, scored 2 goals in his debut v's Surrey last Friday and has made two appearances for Coquitlam in recent games. Godinho, can do a bit of everything and played on the 3rd line and at times on the PP and PK for the Grizzlies. Since his release, he has gone back to the PIJHL's Grandview Steelers.

The VIJHL's Peninsula Panthers who have been one of the mainstay franchises of the VIJHL and most successful in recent years, are under new ownership. After ex-Grizzlies GM Jackson Penny and his wife the previous owners of the Panthers, due to financial issues gave the team to the league to run about 2 weeks ago. Former owners John Wilson (owner of Wilson's transportation) and Craig Zubersky the ex Salsa GM, have stepped in to save the pride of the Saanich Peninsula to become the new ownership group. Wilson and Zubersky, are both passionate about the Panthers team and should restore the VIJHL team to its former glory. The Panthers website is back up and running and Wilson and Zubersky are looking to reconnect with the fans in Brentwood/Sidney and Saanichton area to bring the fans back.
The Salsa/Grizzlies have had a long standing affiliation with the Panthers organisation. This partnership has seen players such as NHLer Jamie Benn his brother and ex Grizz Captain Jordie Benn, Gregg Scott, Greg Simpson, Mike Colantone, Josh Bryan, Michael Simpson and Paul Kolida to name a few, step up from Peninsula to Victoria.

Again, if your looking to watch some quality local Junior hockey at a good price, the VIJHL's Junior B teams in this area, such as the Panthers, Cougars, Braves and Islanders are all good value!
