Grizzlie Fans on the Road in Surrey!!!!

Win or lose, this it what it's all about from a fans perspective. These are some of the Grizzlies die hards who cheer the team on, are loud and a enjoy a good bevvy!!!!

I'd like the Grizzlies ownership to take notice of some of the dedicated and die hard fans we have who follow the team on these trips (only 5 shown there are quite a few more there).

Surrey Eagles 4-3 Victoria Grizzlies @ South Surrey Arena, Nov 4th

The Grizzlies would fall victim to the Eagles for the 2nd time this season in Surrey.
Although a hard fought effort, the Grizzlies big concern from tonight's game if they  went a miserable 0 for 10 on the Powerplay. Against a team like Surrey, you have to make a couple of those PP's count.
The first period would be see the Eagles take a 1-0 lead from a Steve Koshey powerplay goal.
Going into the 2nd period, Surrey would start to take control of this game through Port Alberni native Robert Lindeross and then Charles Orezetti goal 5 minutes later, would see Surrey 3-0 up.
The Grizzlies midway the 2nd period, would start to get a sniff at goal and would start there attempt at a comeback on a Braxton Bilious goal on the 10 minute mark. Bilious would then add a helper on the inform Coltyn Hansen's 2nd Grizzlies goal of the night, making it 3-2 Surrey now. Hansen, has turned into a valuable member of this hockey club and is starting to put some points up on the season.

With the game at 3-2 Eagles going into the third, it was all to play for. However, the powerplay would come in handy for Surrey again, as Hannoun would restore Surrey's two goal lead in the first few minutes of the third. With there backs against the wall, Captain Courageous Sean Robertson would make it 4-3 unassisted. The Grizzlies comeback would fall short there, but, not a bad performance overall.

Game Thoughts Grizzlies  - Going 0 for 10 on the PP isn't going to win you hockey games and in an already tight coastal conference race, this must and improve and quickly.
Stefan Gonzales made his Grizzlies debut tonight.

Grizzlies acquire Defencemen Stefan Gonzales

The Grizzlies may have just shored up there rear guard in the form of 19 yr old Defencemen Stefan Gonzales, acquired from the Chilliwack Chiefs for futures. The 19 yr old 6'1, D-man has over 100 BCHL games under his belt with stops in Burnaby, Quesnel and came with the Millionaires when they moved to Chilliwack. He is expected to join the Grizzlies for there mainland road swing today.

Mainland Road Trip

 

The Grizzlies embark on a three game trip around the lower mainland coming up against Surrey on Friday night, Langley on Saturdayand  finishing out with a Sunday 2pm tilt v's the Coquitlam Express.

The Grizzlies will be without the services of Wes Myron who is on Team Canada West duty ,but, will hopefully have Brad Gehl back and in the lineup after picking up an injury last week.
In a tight coastal conference race, 1st through 6th is separated by only 5 points where the Grizzlies find themselves in 5th place. As the Black and Gold attack have played two games more than the other teams in the coastal and should be aiming for 4 to 6 points on this vital three game swing

Surrey, are always tough to beat at home and are one of the more well rounded team in the BCHL this season. However, they have dropped a couple of games this season and Victoria always plays them hard.
Langley, have struggled against the Grizzlies losing the last three to our boys. They are a team still finding there way and hopefully the Grizzlies will smell blood again against them for a forth time.
Coquitlam, are a team there are still adding pieces to their puzzles. They picked up experienced forward Tyler Bourne for the Olds Grizzlys who along with potent forward Alex Patan and  Alex Kerfoot, will cause the Grizzlies problems.

There will be a good sized travelling support heading to watch all three games, so it should be loud and fun. Good luck to the boys on this trip, they are capable are knocking anyone off, including there own barns on any given night!!!!!

Neepawa Natives - Hazing Incident and Coaching Troubles

Excellent article from Mike Stackhouse's hockey/sports blog. This is over the hazing incident in Neepawa, a Junior A hockey club of the MJHL . The article also goes into what the players where going through during the last 12-18 months or so from the coaching staff involving ex Bulldogs Head Coach, Bryant Perrier, and his assistant Cam Dickie.

The MJHL has done a review into the allegations and the Winnipeg police have an ongoing investigation into the hazing events.

Grizzlies 3-7 Clippers @ Bear Mtn Arena - Nov 1st

You know what, maybe we should just trade for Kyle Kramer. Kramer has racked up 14 pts in six games verses the Grizzlies. Add a combination of  turnovers which the Clippers where merciless with and some shaky defending at the back, the comeback kids couldn't work the magic this time.

1st Period: Was quite an even affair with the Grizzlies top line looking dangerous early on. They would get on the board early when Pernerowski would race into the Clippers zone, throw a nice pass to Moran who would pick out Murphy to tally the Grizzlies first around the 5 min mark. Number two came through continued pressure on the Clippers net where a cheeky pin point pass across the face of the Clippers goal by Ten Vaanholt would be buried by Moran against a sprawling Billy Fuast in the Clippers net. The Clippers would get back into the game through an unlucky slip by Jesse Ursic which allowed Kramer to calmly pick up the puck square it to Fitzgearld who launched a shot that sailed by Jamie Tucker. Two minutes later, Nanaimo, would be on level term as the Clippers swarmed into the Grizzlies zone where the puck would finish up with Clippers defencemen David Iacono to beat Tucker again. Rockafellow, replaced Tucker towards the end of the first,but no controversy as it looked like Jamie was just getting some equipment fixed.
The Grizzlies and Clippers would trade one more goal each at the end of the period with Mike Sandor scoring his first of the season to make it 3-2; before Brandon Taylor thanks to some good skating from Mason Blacklock, would tie it at 3-3.

2nd Period:The 2nd period was back and forth until the Clippers top line started to assert themselves again. Trevor Fitzgearld after some casual play in the neutral zone from the Grizzlies would score after nice build up play from Gladuik and Kramer. Braxton Bilious, after a determined first period, won't want to see a replay on a poorly placed pass in his own zone which fell right to the Grizzlie killer(sorry not very PC) Kyle Kramer who scooped it up and easily beat Tucker, to make it 5-3 Clippers at the end of the 2nd.

3rd Period: Saw the Clippers playing some smart hockey entertaining hockey. Despite flashes of the occasional potential Grizzlies comeback, Nanaimo would add to Victoria's misery mid way through the third as the every dangerous Kramer would really put it beyond doubt at a 6-3 scoreline. To add insult to injury, the Clippers would cap off a good away victory when Colton Dahlen would score on the powerplay to make it 7-3.
Not a classic performance from the Grizzlies, but, sometimes you have to take these results on the chin.

Game Thoughts Victoria:
Although Victoria has done a good job coming together in recent weeks as a team, some more question marks where raised tonight in regards to the defensive core and goaltending. The Grizzlies D, which is inexperienced must cut out the sloppy turnovers and stop giving there opponents as much space as they are doing. The Grizzlies goaltending has been hot and cold and that consistency and the ability to steal games for the team at times, needs to be on display a bit more often.

Game Thoughts  Nanaimo:
Kept pace with the top three and also look like a team who are starting to gel. Kyle Kramer, Gladuik and new Captain Fitzgearld are a lethal combination and need to be close down accordingly.
Mason Blacklock, a recent pick up from Langley looked very useful going forward and with Nanaimo capitalising on Grizzlie errors, they walked out of the Bear with two points tonight.

Stand Outs For the Grizzlies:
The Top line - When on the ice they really looked there dangerous self's with another 5 points on the night.

Stand Outs For the Clippers:
Kyle Kramer - A constant thorn in the side of the Grizzlies, who along with Gladuik and Fitzgearld form the core of the Clippers attack. Four point on the night for Kyle.

Trevor Fitzgerald - A seasoned BCHL forward who is determined and sees the ice well. Looks to be thriving with the 'C' on his jersey.

Colton Cyr - Has been under the spot light after a slow start to season from the Clippers faithful.
Played well tonight and was involved in everything whenever he was one the ice. Had a point on the night. For the Clippers to step it up a notch they need Cyr and Jaw to produce like there capable of doing.

The Grizzlies and the Clippers meet for the 6th time in a month tonight. Anyone else think that's simply overkill in the scheduling dept.
Victoria, should be looking to keep there good home ice form on track as the Clippers  are just 1 point behind the boys in 4th place with two games in hand.


The Grizzlies will meet a Nanaimo team with a little more confidence and after picking some good wins v's the Grizz and Surrey they will be looking to keep that run going. I'm interested to see the D-man they picked up in Zach Ovics from the AJHL's Sherwood Park Crusaders who I hear is a good puck moving defenceman who like to mix it up!!!
